To create a two storey, modern, concrete house that fits within the site context, minimises its impact on the neighbour’s views and creates architecture that is timeless and worthy of this special location. The clients also wanted a home that can function as two separate living spaces for both the clients and their kids as well as incorporating sustainable design principles and technologies.
The form of the house is a folded “S” shape that folds and houses 2 storeys within its folds and turns. This modern house stands strongly on the site, with the overarching concrete form wrapping around the entire beach façade and opening up to the view and beach. The design and the materials needed to address and withstand the harsh Australian and marine environment without much maintenance, hence the use of concrete, stone and hardwood throughout the whole house inside and out.
